Yellow Oxide, also known as Raw Sienna, is an earth tone yellow tint for latex and acrylic paint. This is the colorant behind most tans, beiges, khakis, and warm neutrals.
What Yellow Oxide is good for
- Warm neutrals: tans, beiges, khaki, sand, and cream.
- Adding warmth to cool colors.
- Aging natural surfaces on sets/props and faux finishes, like old plaster, parchment, sandstone, and dust.
Mixing with Yellow Oxide
- White: cream or sand.
- Raw Umber: khaki or tan.
- Lamp Black: olives.
- Burnt Sienna: ochre or golden brown.
Yellow Oxide/Raw Sienna, Organic Yellow, or Medium Yellow?
Yellow Oxide is muted and opaque, the one for earthy colors and neutrals. For bright yellows, use Medium Yellow. For lemon/light yellows or greens, use Organic Yellow. Yellow Oxide also holds up well outdoors, since iron oxides are among the most fade-resistant pigments.
About ProTint
ProTint is our own line of high-strength, water based colorants. It works in latex and acrylic paint, stains, plasters, stuccos, caulks, and more. Each 16oz squeeze bottle has a flip top nozzle for dispensing small amounts without a mess. We recommend weighing your mixes in grams so you can repeat them accurately later. Don't overload your paint/base. Bases always have a maximum tint load and begin to weaken or break. For oil-based paint or lacquer, use Cal-Tint II instead.
